Apply for postgraduate fellowships by January 31
Each year, the Mortar Board National Foundation awards fellowships to members to assist in financing their postgraduate education. To be eligible for grants valued up to $10,000, submit your application by January 31, 2009.
More than $60,000 was awarded in Mortar Board fellowships for the 2008-2009 academic year. Recipients are chosen for academic excellence, recommendation, promise, financial need and Mortar Board involvement.
Any Mortar Board initiate who is furthering their education with post-baccalaureate study, regardless of age, is eligible to apply for fellowships. Simply complete the online application and have two references (one from Mortar Board) submit a quick online recommendation.

Mortar Board Virtual Book Drive raised more than $25,000
The Mortar Board Virtual Book Drive, held July 26 - October 15 in conjunction with First Book and the national "Reading is Leading" initiative, was a huge success. The drive resulted in a whopping $25,586.24 raised nationally - just shy of a very aggressive national goal of $30,000. Funds raised will help to support local literacy initiatives, providing children from low-income families the opportunity to own their first new books.
Thank you to all the chapters who participated in this national initiative. This amazing commitment to support Mortar Board's national project, Reading is Leading, is truly a reason to celebrate.

The top producing chapters were awarded a Borders gift card to use at the chapters’ discretion to buy books for a community organization of their choice.

In addition to individual chapters being honored for their contributions, the regional section with the highest total donation and participation rate was recognized. As a prize, the top section (Ohio) will be able to choose two programs to each receive 500 books from First Book.
Mortar Board Forum magazine coming soon
The Mortar Board Forum magazine will be arriving in homes soon. For collegiate members, the magazine has been shipped to the permanent address each chapter submitted for individual members as a part of the Official Membership Report (OMR).

Mortar Board member offers special donation with purchase of his book
Mortar Board member Kunle Oguneye (Valparaiso University, initiated in 1996) is the author of children's book "Sikulu and Harambe by the Zambezi River." To support Mortar Board's national project, "Reading is Leading," Kunle will donate proceeds of Mortar Board sales to the national organization.

Find your job with Mortar Board
In conjunction with JobTarget, Mortar Board has launched the Mortar Board Career Center, a search engine for all members, both collegiate and alumni. Mortar Board members are able to search for a variety of jobs, both nationally and locally. National employers will have the ability to post positions and exclusively recruit Mortar Board members. Anonymous resumes can be posted and easily searched and seen by potential employers.

Have a creative streak? Enter the YouTube Video Recruitment Contest by Dec. 15.
Members are encouraged to submit an original recruitment video on behalf of their chapter. This video should highlight Mortar Board’s activities, ideals and/or members, on YouTube. A committee will then review the videos and select one grand prize-winning chapter to receive a $200 check and insignia for the winning chapter’s website. Honorable mention chapters will also receive recognition.
To participate in the national Mortar Board YouTube Recruitment Video Contest, chapters must upload a video shorter than 10 minutes to www.YouTube.com by December 15. A link and CD or DVD of the video should also be sent to the National Office. All entries may gain recognition as a portion of a future national recruitment video!
