This year, Mortar Board is thankful for all of its loyal, involved members.  Mortar Board is a unique honor society in that it is more than just an honor and a privilege; it is an organization that seeks active participation from its valuable lifelong members.  Thank you for being an outstanding Mortar Board member and devoting yourself to this unique organization.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Mortar Board Fellowships now available for postgraduate education

You may have started to think about what your future holds or what you are going to do after graduation. If you have additional time left as an undergraduate, consider searching Mortar Board’s scholarship finder for more than $3 million in awards.  On the other hand, members applying to graduate and professional schools should apply for fellowships available exclusively to Mortar Board members. 

This year, there will be an anticipated $50,000 in fellowships awarded to approximately 15 deserving Mortar Board members in various graduate and professional fields of study.  Recipients are chosen based on academic excellence, recommendation, promise and Mortar Board involvement, not just on financial need. 

Since the establishment of the Mortar Board fellowship program in 1941, more than $500,000 has been awarded to assist members in pursuing further study in graduate or professional school. 

Applying for a Mortar Board fellowship requires completing an online application, having two recommenders (one who can speak to your Mortar Board involvement) complete a brief online evaluation, and submitting an official transcript by January 31, 2008.

Share the Mortar Board spirit of scholarship, leadership and service

As the fall term comes to a close, many chapters are seeking new members for the 2008-2009 academic year.  Help your chapter by sharing information about Mortar Board and your chapter with underclassmen friends.

• Make or join national and local Facebook/Myspace groups and add Mortar Board to your social networking profiles.
• Show your pride by wearing Mortar Board attire such as chapter T-shirts, national sweatshirts, etc. Don’t have any official apparel?  Order it now. 
• Encourage qualified candidates to apply for Mortar Board as the application deadlines near.
• Add information about Mortar Board to your instant messaging profile.
• Know someone who is interested in joining Mortar Board?  Have them sign up for the national prospective member e-mail list to receive information about Mortar Board nationally. 

Copy of the Forum magazine coming soon
The Fall/Winter 2007 edition of the Mortar Board Forum magazine is coming to homes this December.  If you were initiated within the past five years and have an accurate address on file with the National Office you will get the magazine.  There is still time to update your address to ensure the magazine gets to the right place on time.
