Mortar Board membership: a timeless honor

Being initiated into Mortar Board is a significant tribute, as Mortar Board is the premier national honor society recognizing college seniors. College students’ success is directly related to the support of their families. On this parent’s page of the Mortar Board website, we want to provide information about Mortar Board and also congratulations to families who have helped their students reach the pinnacle of recognition as a scholar-leader on campus: Mortar Board membership.

Mortar Board is a society that has been recognizing college seniors for their superior leadership, scholarship and service for 93 years. There have been 229 college campuses in the United States whose petition for a chapter charter has been granted by our National Council. Mortar Board chapters serve the institution where the chapter is located. That is why you may find that the president, vice president for student affairs, dean of students, and other chief executives of the institution rely on Mortar Board members to contribute meaningfully to campus life. As a member, a student serves in the Mortar Board chapter for only one year — and retains the distinction of membership for a lifetime.
